Cricket is played at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The venue’s construction cost $23 million, and the project was completed in May 2004. Scotland and Kenya played there in the World Cup for the stadium’s first-ever first-class match. The venue was one of the locations set aside specifically for the T20 World Cup in 2021.

The stadium includes a sizable stand at each end, and there are grassland banks for extra seats in the square of the wicket. 20 000 people can fit inside.

International Matches

Zayed Cricket Stadium hosted many International games of Cricket. When Pakistan could not host International cricket at their home venues, this stadium hosted their series with big teams like South Africa, Sri Lanka, Australia, and many others.

Sheikh Zayed Stadium also hosted charity matches between Pakistan and India after the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan to help the victims, and they succeeded in generating about $10 million fund.

Domestic Matches

Many cricket matches, notable contests in the Nissan Gulf Cup, were played at the venue in 2009 between first-class sides from England and India. Sussex, Lancashire, Middlesex, and Surrey all participated in an on-field warmup friendly in March 2009.

The very first 20 of the IPL 60 games in 2014 were played in the UAE, with some games going to take place at the stadium. 20 games, including the tournament opening game, of the 2020 IPL were played in the UAE from September to November. Between September and October of 2021, the league’s second half was also played there.

Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium also organizes many domestic matches. The First, 3 or 4 Seasons of PSL were held in UAE, and Zayed Cricket Stadium hosted their matches. In 2014 and 2022, IPL games also took place at this venue.

T20 World Cup 2021

Dubai will host an ICC event for the first time in 2021 for T20 World Cup. It started on October 17 and will last through Nov 14. In addition to the 10 Super 12 games and the semifinal, Abu Dhabi featured four first-round games.

Football Match

Zayed Stadium is not only a cricket venue, but it is also scheduled for a soccer match between Oman and Thailand in 2019.

Nursery 1 & Nursery 2

A set of smaller fields named Nursery 1 & Nursery 2 are also part of the arena complex. In Oct 2018, Australia and the United Arab Emirates played a T20I at Tolerance Oval. Tolerance Oval was announced as one of the locations for cricket matches for the 2019 T20 World Cup Qualifier competition in Sep 2019.
