Education

He studied till college level at St. Benedicts College Colombo.

Early Years

During the 2017-18 Premier Limited Overs Tournament, Theekshana made his List-A debut for Colts Cricket Club on March 14, 2018. As a first-class player with Colts Cricket Club, he first played first-class cricket on December 7, 2016. During the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League, he was drafted by the Jaffna Stallions in October 2020.

Following the players’ draft for the 2021 Lanka Premier League, Theekshana was selected for the Jaffna Kings following the 2021 SLC Invitational T20 League tournament.

During the 2022 Indian Premier League auction, he was purchased by the Chennai Super Kings. In July 2022, he was signed by the Jaffna Kings for the third edition of the Lanka Premier League.

Career

International Career

He was selected for Sri Lanka’s One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) squads following his strong performance in the SLC Invitational T20 league. He made his ODI debut on 7 September 2021 against South Africa.

He took the first wicket with his first ball in ODI cricket, helping Sri Lanka win the series 2-1. His debut in T20I cricket came against South Africa on 10 September 2021, also for Sri Lanka. A few days later, Theekshana was named Sri Lanka’s team for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

T20I

He made his T20I debut against South Africa in 2021 at R. Premadasa Stadium. He has played 18 T20I matches until now, taking 16 wickets at an average of 27.38 and with an economy rate of 6.44. He is more known for his economical bowling.

ODI

He also got to play ODI cricket v South Africa at the same venue, R. Premadasa, in 2021. He has been given a chance to represent Sri Lanka in just 9 matches until now and has managed to get 10 wickets at an average of 33.4 and with an economy rate of 4.07, which is quite impressive in modern-day cricket.

Test

He represented Sri Lanka in test match cricket in 2022 by playing his first match against Australia at Galle International Stadium. He has played just 2 games and has managed to bag 5 wickets with an average of 37.6.

IPL

He has represented Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He has taken 12 wickets in the 9 matches he has played for CSK at an average of 21.75 and with a reasonable economy rate of 7.76. He played his first IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in 2022. Before that, he was a  net bowler for CSK in IPL 2021.
