Sharafu scored an unbeaten 59 runs in their plate semifinal match against Nigeria, earning him the title of player of the game. In the 2020 ACC Western Region T20 tournament on February 23, 2020, he made his UAE T20 International (T20I) debut against Iran.
He was one of 10 cricketers who received a one-year, part-time contract from the Emirates Cricket Board in December 2020. He was selected for the UAE’s One Day International (ODI) team to play Ireland in January 2021.
On January 8, 2021, he played in his first ODI for the UAE against Ireland. The next ODI match had to be rescheduled since he tested positive for COVID-19 the next day.
